About Attribute Fine Art Services.
Attribute Fine Art Services (AFAS) is owned and operated by Theresa Sickler - a life-long admirer of art, history and nature’s beauty.
Theresa was born and raised in NE Kansas and began her interest in art during high school and pursued it throughout her undergraduate college years at the University of Kansas earning a Fine Arts degree in Art History. Although she began her education at KU on a fine arts scholarship, her true passion was the history of art, and the business of art. During college, she worked for a local art gallery. There, she was asked to research, and value works of art by Albert Bloch (member of Der Blaue Reiter “The Blue Rider” group). This furthered her interest in art valuation and the story behind the art. Albert Bloch was an art educator at KU (beginning in the 1920’s and retiring in the late 1940’s), and also a mentor of one of the key artists of the gallery, Robert Sudlow, who was also an art educator at KU. After researching and learning about the succession of these artists, and their influence from one to the other, this solidified her love for art, the history, and the stories behind each work, and especially with helping people bring the beauty and history into their lives and homes. This local gallery experience paved the way for a lifelong enthusiasm towards the arts.
Upon graduating, Theresa moved to Saint Augustine, Florida where she worked for a large art gallery in the heart of the historic downtown district, there she served as a fine art consultant and gallery director for almost eight years, until moving back to the Midwest. This gallery experience proved invaluable, as Theresa had the opportunity to help clients bring art from local, national and international artist into their home and build their collections. She was fortunate to meet many of the artists, watch them work, and even served as a muse for a plein-air portrait for one of the artists. The gallery held popular are exhibitions monthly which gave Theresa first-hand experience in preparing for and facilitating large art events.
Once back in the Midwest, Theresa began pursuing a graduate degree in philanthropy, to learn more about the charitable side of the art world. She volunteered for a local art museum assisting with membership and fundraising events. This offered her behind-the-scenes knowledge of the art museum world and gave her an inside look into the charitable and educational side of art. Fast forward several years, Theresa started pursuing a graduate degree in communication management and then began working for a sector of the Federal government.
Theresa never lost her desire to help people bring artwork into their home, and still had a dream one day to pursue that passion. After several years enduring the cold winters of Kansas, her and her family moved back to the warm weather of the South.
Still maintaining that pull to the arts, Theresa completed 24 courses in appraisal studies with the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). Understanding and learning the appraisal and legal side of art was both intriguing and beneficial; however, she wanted to put her focus and efforts towards helping people bring art into their lives.
Theresa lives in Bluffton - Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and continues to work her “day” job for the Federal government; however, in the evenings and weekends, pursues her life-long interest of helping people navigate the art world, bring beauty into their homes and build their art legacy.
